31 Dec ARE LAWYERS ENTREPRENEURIAL?
I think Bruce MacEwan has a point regarding the law firm environment not being compatible with entrepreneurialism.
I have seen first-hand law firms that believe that entrepreneurship is part of their culture and even promote themselves as an entrepreneurial firm, but they miss the mark completely.
Entrepreneurship includes risk, innovation, and strategic thinking that takes place ahead of the curve. Law firms are not this way because those who lead them do not think this way. Occasionally you will find a firm that has exceptional leaders that can foster an entrepreneurial environment, but this is very rare. They might claim this status but all the while their eyes are on the dashboard of profits per partner, and it takes more than short-sighted perspective to be entrepreneurial.
Bruce’s eloquent comments about entrepreneurism begin at the 4:00 mark.
